I came across this article in the Independent about good coffee, particularly flat whites, leading the way in Britain. I’m not sure I can see Starbucks and Costa offering flatties any time soon, or disappearing either.
Time to wake up and smell the flat white
I’ve updated the FlatWhiteAbet page with some more locations, mostly all of the Sacred locations that I’ve now discovered. One is even near enough to work to be a viable stop for a flat white each day.
Thanks for all the comments suggesting places to try out. I’ll do my best to get around to them all soon.
Hi there. I did a review of flat whites in London when I was living there a few years back. Might give you some ideas of cafes to try? Post is here: http://flatwhite.net/2007/06/the-best-coffee-in-london/. Despite the domain name, it’s not a coffee site…just love Flat Whites too…off for one now…cheers…
Monmouth Coffee Company (http://www.monmouthcoffee.co.uk/) does flat whites but the first one I tried today at Borough Market wasn’t that great – too bitter, burnt and not enough (dare I say it) velvety milk. However, Fleet River Bakery (http://www.fleetriverbakery.com/) in Holborn which uses Monmouth coffee beans has nice tasting flat whites. Shame… maybe the barista was having a bad day. I should try the other Monmouth Coffee Company in Covent Garden to compare.
Actually a lot of Australian or NZ run cafes do flat whites such as Lantana and Modern Pantry. The latter one tasted better than the former but Flat White hands down serves the best flat white, in my humble opinion.
